With my new call, duties and many other things (not to mention because I've not posted here much at all,) I will be officially taking Cross Theology (the blog) off the air. But I do plan on posting regularly at my sermon blog Babylon Falling, which has recently joined the association of the Radical Grace blog network. Please, check it out!

Don't Hate Me because I Love Ron Paul!

For those of you who may have come here recently to find out "who is this new Pastor Fisk guy?", you'll have to forgive me for my enthusiasm over one of the strongest Pro-life candidates in the field. It's become something of a hobby. Those of you who have read the recent Philadelphia Lutheran Ministries Newsletter would be better directed to my sermon blog: Babylon Falling.
There you will find preaching of the Word for your listening pleasure.
Meanwhile, consider my enjoyment of the rEVOLution campaign as one more example of my unique affinity with the emerging gerneration (who make up a large portion of Ron Paul supporters.) It is this generation that Ron Paul is reaching, and it's for some of the same reasons that I believe we have an opportunity in Philadelphia. As Lutherans, we, like Ron Paul, have an old message. It's much more proven and time tested than the US Constitution or the Austrian Economic Theory (staples of Paul's platform.) It is the history of the holy, catholic Church, from the earliest Christians straight through the half-millenium old Reformation. We have a message that cuts through the gobbly gook of modern Evangelical feel-goodism and marketing techniques, in order to address the real issues of present and future challenges of living in this world.
Some may shun the connection, pointing to the low numbers Paul is drawing in the polls. But sadly, Lutherans in America make Ron Paul look like a front-runner. Drawing 8-15% of those interested in learning about Christianity would be a landslide for Philadelphia Lutheranism. Let us indeed pray God will so bless the real rEVOLution of history, the rEfORMAtion message, the Great Reversal of Christ's death and resurrection, for the sake of us all, young and old alike. Let us pray that even ten who have wandered shall return, and that even one who has not heard shall repent and rejoice with all of heaven. This is God's good and gracious will. Let us pray that he sees it done among us also, and beyond.

How not Ron Paul?
Now, I'm not one to ever say that a Christian has to vote one way or another on a candidate. But I just don't know how any thinking human alive can not be impressed by this man.
Just give him a listen. Not tempted? So tell me, are you looking forward to the upcoming national ID card/drivers' license with the cpu chip in it, without which you cannot get on a plane or go into a post-office? Sound like something out of George Orwell or some conspiracy theory? Think again. It's amazing what you're government has been up to since the Patriot Act.
Oh, and while we're at it, I might point out that just this week Fox ("we tell it, you decide") News actually cut an entire answer of Ron Paul's out of the rebroadcast of the debate (which they finally have let him even participate in.) What did he say that was so inflamatory? (And make sure you listen to the audience cheering...)
Compare that to this:

Autobots are mostly cool
Why is there no sermon posted this week? The bad news is that on the way to preach at St. John's Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA, we had a little spin-out/accident in the ice-snow. The good news is that nobody was hurt because it really was a *little* accident, no more than a fender bender. The other bad news, however, is that we drive a Volvo autobot (a defensive specialist named "Overreaction,") who in an instant had deployed all his super-mech auto-defense mechanisms in order to save my and my wee beastie's little lives.
Of course, if our autobot could just scan the nearest volvo and put everything back together himself, I wouldn't be complaining. But he's one of those real world models that now is going to require a little down time back at the autobot base, where they feed him the oil equivalent of caviar and he gets rubbed down by all sorts of import tech tools.
So what will become of us? We were going to head West for Christmas in Kansas City. It may or may not yet come to be. But what shall surely come to pass, (99%) is that we will be moving to the Philadelphia area by sometime in early spring, because St. John Lutheran Church of Springfield has extended me a divine call, and, as of a phone call made by the side of the road today to tell them I wasn't going to be able to preach, I have accepted the call to be their pastor.
For those of you who are reading this, your prayers over the past months have been greatly appreciated. Thanks be to the Lord for his mercy. I am greatly looking forward to posting weekly sermons in the near future!
